Our Services

Bee Swarm Catching service

Swarm Catching

We catch swarms for free in Whatcom County! If you happen to spot a swarm, please call us immediately, and we will come running to rescue them! A swarm is a cluster of bees (sometimes baseball to basketball sized) that are homeless. A swarm of bees abandoned their previous home that was unsuitable (usually due to overcrowding). These bees will settle on a branch or bush (or anywhere else) while they rest. They stay resting anywhere from a couple minutes to a couple days…so action must be taken quickly to save them! If you call us for a swarm and we successfully rescue them, we will gratefully reward you with a jar of honey!

We offer the FREE SERVICE of Bee Removal or Swarm Catching in Whatcom County! If you see a swarm in Bellingham, Ferndale, Blaine, Birch Bay, Custer, or Lynden.  Call us at (956) 533-0628 or (956) 961-5552.

Beekeeping Education and Training

Education

McFall Beeyard offers beekeeping classes. Beekeeping is not a very intuitive craft, so taking a class is a great way to increase the odds of beekeeping success. The majority of our classes are geared toward the beginner beekeeper, but we also offer advanced classes for seasoned beekeepers. Our classes cover a wide-variety of bee-related topics to help you find success in beekeeping including:

  • Bee Behaviors
  • Bee Biology
  • Choosing Hive Locations
  • Beekeeping Practices
  • Beekeeping Equipment
  • Honey & Honey Extraction

Seating is limited, so whenever seating is announced please act quickly. Look for class updates on our social media pages or sign up for our newsletter (located at the bottom of this page).

Bee selling

Bee Sales

Seasonally we offer bees for sale. We sell nucs (short for nucleus colonies) as well as queens. Nucleus colonies are preferable to packaged bees for starting a colony because they come with five frames of comb, bees of all ages, brood, pollen, honey, and an accepted laying queen. This gives the honeybees and beekeeper a huge head start (as opposed to package bees who have to start from zero). Usually, our nukes are available for purchase beginning early or mid-May. All our nukes come in a reusable waxed cardboard box.

We currently sell the Carniolan breed of honeybee. We’ve found the Carniolan Honeybee to be the best-suited for the weather conditions of the Pacific Northwest. Our bees are good-natured, willing to fly, and have the ability to overwinter well in our climate. Also, if you are in need of a mated queen, please contact us since we occasionally rear queens throughout the spring and summer.

Bee Pollination service

Crop Pollination

We’re available to temporarily place bee colonies on private land for the purpose of pollination of crops.  We’re proud that our bees have pollinated various crops, including raspberries, blueberries, cherries, apples, and lavender.  We know that honey bees are vital for productive crop yields, so we’re happy to help farmers and land owners with food production.
